Eagle Peak

Status: Advisory (Mar 1 – Jul 31)

Land Ownership: Cleveland National Forest
Access Issues: Seasonal Raptor Nesting Advisories
Climbing: Multi-Pitch Sport and Trad

Eagle Peak is host to a high concentration of multi pitch mid-country sport climbing. Climbs at the main wall start at the base (most top out) with walk-off descents. Climbs at the upper peak generally require a rappel to begin the routes. Eagle Peak is located on a well maintained dirt road half-way between Julian and Descanso (two-wheel drive vehicle friendly). The approach takes about 3/4 to 1-1/4 hours. Eagle Peak is located within the Palomar District of the Cleveland National Forest.

When to Climb

Eagle Peak has a couple different zones. All of it is quite south facing. The Main Wall lies between 2500 and 2900 feet elevation. The summit area is mostly between 2800 and 3150 feet. Given the south facing wall and elevation, plan to climb when it is not too hot.
