Popular to North County residents, this is a small crag in Escondido with an equally small approach. Come here for top-rope and lead routes of varying difficulty. Rock is compact granite. When to Climb

As with most San Diego crags, Fall through Spring is your best bet. The crag faces South-West, so it gets morning shade. Before climbing, please check in with the Ranger Station on Dixon Lake. Access to this area is restricted to climbers only as a result of vandalism.

Guidebook info

  • The San Diego County Climbing Guide by Dave Kennedy and Chris Hubbard has a topo for this crag.
  • MountainProject.com is always a great resource, and some local climbers have done a fine job of cataloging the routes here.

Directions

From San Diego, take I-15 toward Escondido. Exit El Norte Parkway, head east approximately 3.5 miles, turn left on La Honda. At the Dixon Lake entrance make an immediate right and park in the second parking lot (on the left). A short trail across from the lot leads 100 yards to the rocks.
