Climbing: Granite Bouldering and a few Top-Ropes
San Diego's most popular boulders primarily due to the area's accessibility, the climbing here consists primarily of crimpy face problems, mantels, and a few cracks. Some top-rope problems exist on the larger boulders, but most will prefer to boulder. Approach is 5 minutes, so a session after school or work is quite doable (the main reason for their popularity). Located in Santee, across Mast Boulevard from West Hills Park, Santee Boulders sits on a conglomerate of privately held parcels.
Directions: From San Diego’s Highway 52, take the Mast Boulevard Exit and go east. Park in the West Hills Park parking lot (.5 miles, across the street from the boulders). From Mission Gorge Road in Santee, head North on West Hills Parkway, then East on Mast Blvd.
Directions: From San Diego, take the 52 freeway East to Mast Blvd in Santee. Exit and turn left (North-East). Pass two lights, then be careful not to miss the next right turn into West Hills Park. Park there and carefully cross Mast Blvd to get to the boulders.
