Mt Woodson

Mt Woodson Another of San Diego's most popular climbing destinations. The routes tend to be short, difficult cracks and face climbs up large boulders. The boulders are spread out amongst chaparral along a paved road to the summit. The road is also very popular amongst hikers. There seems to be some confusion whether to rope-up here or not. Many routes can be bouldered while many others are best led or top roped. A short rope and a light rack should cover the gear requirements if you choose to attempt the taller routes. Approach is nearly an hour to the top but there are routes all the way up. Parking is located at the far west end of Ramona off highway 67. Mt Woodson is open space within the jurisdictional boundaries of the City of San Diego, City of Poway, State of California, and private parcels.

Directions: From San Diego, take Highway 67 north toward the town of Ramona. Park approximately three miles north of the Highway 67 Poway Road junction, on the west side of the road. Take a dirt trail through some trees to get to a paved road that leads to the top.
