Glen Cliff Nesting Advisory - 2011/2012

Last Updated on Wednesday, 14 December 2011

Where: Glen Cliff
When: Dec 15th, 2011 through Aug 2012 (unless active nesting does not occur) <Closure Map>

Glen Cliff is located West of I-8 above the Border Patrol checkpoint near Sunrise Highway. The crag has a dozen or so single-pitch routes which receive only occasional traffic, but is also home to a pair of raptors that nest there most years. To avoid impacting their nesting activities, the Cleveland National Forest implements a closure of the area to minimize the risk of human disturbance. Unfortunately the area is so small that none of the climbing can remain open during active nesting.

Closure details and updates will be posted here as well as on the Cleveland National Forest website

Mt Gower Nesting Advisory - 2011/2012

Last Updated on Wednesday, 14 December 2011

Where: Mt Gower
When: Dec 15th, 2011 through Aug 2012 (unless active nesting does not occur) <Closure Map>

Mt Gower sits behind the Ramona Country Estates, flanked to the West by Swartz County Park. The hillside has a smattering of boulders with a number of problems and even a few top-rope routes mixed in. There's also a seasonally active raptor nest up there. To avoid impacting their nesting activities, the Cleveland National Forest implements a closure of the area to minimize the risk of human disturbance. Much of the hill is closed during the nesting season (see the CNF map when it's posted around Dec 15th for details).

Closure details and updates will be posted here as well as on the Cleveland National Forest website

Access Fund Alert!: Summit Rock Falcon Closure

Last Updated on Tuesday, 25 October 2011

The County of Santa Clara, California has closed Summit Rock, a popular crag in the Bay Area to protect peregrine falcons nesting. Instead of implementing a seasonal climbing closure to protect the nesting site, the standard management practice at all levels of government nationwide, the County is enforcing a year round closure. We need your help to do something about it.
